I love to start each day with a bear claw
And luckily, no ursine beasts were harmed To make the morning treat on which I gnaw The folks at PETA need not be alarmed The acorn squash—a term conferred in jest Why does its name a hardwood seed evoke? For dragging one up to a lofty nest Would surely cause a squirrel to have a stroke No Rocky Mountain oyster knows the sea Or lives one day in waters cold and clear This tidbit owes its source to surgery When brawny bovines feel the rancher’s shear A ladyfinger lacks both bone and skin This biscuit’s appellation does mislead A wary cannibal must look within Or read the label ‘ere he can proceed They’re not the meaty morsels they might seem No capillaries, just raspberry cream |
